Nano Urea and Its Impact on Crop Yields

Nano Urea and Its Impact on Crop Yields

A recent study suggests that the continued use of nano-urea could potentially reduce the yields of rice and wheat.

About Nano Urea:

Nano urea, developed by the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative (IFFCO), is an innovative agricultural product based on nanotechnology that supplies nitrogen to plants.

  • It contains 4% nitrogen.
  • The particles of nano urea are small (20-50 nm), offering a larger surface area and more particles per unit area compared to conventional urea.

Benefits of Nano Urea:

  • Higher Nutrient Use Efficiency: Enhances the effectiveness of nutrients for plant growth.
  • Reduced Environmental Impact: Helps minimize nutrient loss from agricultural fields, reducing leaching and gaseous emissions.
  • Convenience: It is easier to store and transport than traditional urea.
