Investment and External Commercial Borrowings Report

The State Bank of India has released a report on India’s Investment and External Commercial Borrowings (ECB) landscape.

Key Observations:

• Household Net Financial Savings: Increased to 5.3% of GDP in FY24, up from 5.0% in FY23.
• Savings in Physical Assets: Rose from 12.9% of GDP in FY23 to 13.5% in FY24.
• Government Investment: In FY23, government investment reached 4.1% of GDP, marking the highest level since FY12.
• Private Corporate Investment: Increased to 11.9% of GDP in FY23, the highest since FY16.

ECB Landscape:

• As of September 2024, the total outstanding External Commercial Borrowings (ECBs) amounted to $190.4 billion.
• ECBs are commercial loans taken by resident entities from non-resident lenders.
