 Karnataka High Court Strikes Down Green Energy Open Access Rules 2022

The Karnataka High Court has invalidated the Electricity (Promoting Renewable Energy Through Green Energy Open Access) Rules, 2022. The Court stated that the Centre did not have the authority to frame these specific rules, and that the relevant State-level Commission was responsible for regulating open access.

About the Green Energy Open Access (GORA) Rules 2022:

These rules were notified to encourage the generation, purchase, and consumption of green energy, including energy from waste-to-energy plants, through open access.
Under the GORA framework, any consumer is allowed open access, with the threshold for such transactions reduced from 1 MW to 100 kW for green energy.
