Recently, the Jharkhand Forest Department launched a study to help revive the declining population of the Bison at the Palamu Tiger Reserve.

About Indian Bison:

• Characteristics: A large, powerful, and social animal.
• Diet: Primarily grazes on leaves, fruits, stems, flowers, and seeds.
• Behavior: Diurnal in nature, remaining active during the day.
• Reproduction: Has a pregnancy period of 9 months, similar to humans.

Habitat: Primarily found in the Western Ghats, preferring evergreen and moist deciduous forests, usually inhabiting the foothills.

Threats: Face risks from food scarcity, poaching, and other challenges.

Conservation Status:

• IUCN: Vulnerable
• Wildlife Protection Act, 1972: Schedule I
• CITES: Appendix I
