Sree Narayana Guru (1856-1928)
IIT Bombay is set to launch an online archival project dedicated to Sree Narayana Guru this May.
A highly respected social reformer and spiritual leader from Kerala, Narayana Guru made significant contributions to society.
Contributions:
- He advocated the idea of ‘One Caste, One Religion, One God.’
- Along with Padmanabhan Palpu, he founded the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam (SNDP) to promote the upliftment and education of the Ezhava community.
- He initiated the Aruvipuram movement, one of the first movements advocating equal rights for temple entry.
- He supported the Vaikom Satyagraha (1924-25) in Travancore, which sought temple entry rights for lower-caste individuals.
- His notable works include DaivaDasakam, Anukampadasakam, and others.
