Researchers from Switzerland have recently developed a gene-editing technique aimed at curing Stargardt disease.

About Stargardt Disease (Juvenile Macular Dystrophy):

• A rare inherited eye disorder that causes vision loss in children and young adults.
• It is caused by mutations in the ABCA4 gene, which plays a role in how the body processes Vitamin A.
• The disease occurs when fatty deposits (lipofuscin) accumulate on the macula, the small area of the retina responsible for sharp, central vision.
• It typically affects both eyes (bilateral).
• Treatment: Currently, there is no available treatment for this condition.
