Doctors in Jammu & Kashmir have suggested that organophosphates, which are commonly used in pesticides, could be responsible for the deaths of 17 villagers.

About Organophosphates

• Formation: Organophosphates are chemical compounds created through an esterification process that involves phosphoric acid and alcohol. Esterification is a chemical reaction where alcohol and acid combine to form an ester as the product.
• Applications: Organophosphates are used in herbicides, pesticides, and insecticides. They are also utilized as nerve agents in chemical warfare, where they disrupt nerve signal transmission and neuromuscular functions in affected organisms.
