Recently, the Indian embassy successfully rescued 67 Indian nationals from cyber scam centers located in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone (GTSEZ) of Lao PDR.

Political Features

  • Location: A landlocked country in Southeast Asia.
  • Golden Triangle: It is part of the Golden Triangle, an opium-producing region, alongside Thailand and Myanmar.
  • Land Boundaries: Lao PDR shares borders with China (to the north), Vietnam (to the northeast and east), Cambodia (to the south), Thailand (to the west), and Myanmar (to the northwest).
  • ASEAN Membership: It is a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Geographical Features

  • Plateaus: Xiangkhiang, Bolovens, and Khammouan plateaus.
  • Mountain Ranges: Annamite Range and Luang Prabang Range.
  • Highest Peak: Phu Bia.
  • Major Rivers: The Mekong River, which borders Myanmar and Thailand, with the capital city, Vientiane, situated along its banks.
