National Disaster Response Force (NDRF)
The NDRF recently celebrated its 20th Raising Day.
About NDRF:
The NDRF was established in 2006 under the Disaster Management Act of 2005 to provide specialized response to both natural and man-made disasters. The general supervision, direction, and control of the NDRF is vested in and exercised by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
Functions: NDRF is responsible for carrying out rescue operations during calamities such as floods, landslides, and other disasters.
Composition: The force consists of 16 battalions drawn from various Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), including the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), and Assam Rifles.
