India has recently provided humanitarian assistance to support the residents of the Kurdistan region in Iraq.

About the Kurdistan Region:
Kurdistan is a mountainous area that spans parts of eastern Turkey, northern Iraq, western Iran, and smaller regions in northern Syria and Armenia.
It is predominantly inhabited by the Kurdish people, the fourth-largest ethnic group in the Middle East without their own nation-state.
After World War I, the Treaty of Sèvres promised the Kurds their own homeland, but this hope was shattered by the Treaty of Lausanne in 1924, which divided the Kurdish population among the newly established nations of the Middle East.
