 ISRO’s 100th Launch from Sriharikota

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully conducted its 100th launch from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. The mission involved placing the NVS-02 satellite into Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit using the GSLV-F15 rocket.

The GSLV-F15 is a three-stage launch vehicle equipped with a third-stage CUS 15 cryogenic engine.

The NVS-02 satellite is the second in the NVS series and is part of India’s Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC) program.

What is NavIC?

Overview: NavIC is a regional satellite navigation system, previously known as the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS), developed by ISRO.

NavIC Network: The system consists of a constellation of seven satellites, three in geostationary orbit and four in inclined geosynchronous orbit.

NavIC Services:

  • Standard Positioning Service (SPS): Available for civilian users.
  • Restricted Service: Reserved for strategic users.

Coverage Area: NavIC covers India and extends up to 1500 km beyond its borders.

Accuracy: The SPS provides an accuracy of better than 20 meters, with a timing precision of better than 40 nanoseconds.

Interoperability: NavIC’s SPS signals are compatible with other global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) such as GPS (USA), GLONASS (Russia), Galileo (European Union), and BeiDou (China).
