Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI)
Recently, the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) inaugurated its 6th regional office in Varanasi. Previously, IWAI operated five regional offices located in Guwahati, Patna, Kochi, Bhubaneswar, and Kolkata.
About IWAI:
- Nodal Ministry: Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
- Origin: IWAI is a statutory body established under the Inland Waterways Authority of India Act, 1985.
- Objective: To develop and regulate inland waterways for shipping and navigation.
- Purpose: IWAI undertakes projects for the development and maintenance of Inland Water Transport (IWT) infrastructure on national waterways, funded by grants from the Ministry of Shipping.
