The Global Investment Trends Monitor report, recently released by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), provides key insights into global investment patterns:
- Overall, global Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) increased by 11%, reaching $1.4 trillion in 2024.
- However, when excluding investment flows through European conduit economies (which are often used as transit points), FDI fell by 8%.
- FDI to developing countries dropped by 2%, marking the second consecutive year of decline for the Global South.
- Investments in sectors related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) declined by 11% globally in 2024.
- In India, FDI rose by 13%, accompanied by growth in greenfield project announcements.
