Darfur Crisis
The Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) recently urged the United Nations Security Council to take action regarding the worsening atrocities in Sudan’s Darfur region.
About the Darfur Crisis
- Location: Darfur is a region in western Sudan, home to around 80 different tribes and ethnic groups, which have been plagued by tribal and ethnic conflicts.
- Background: The conflict began escalating in 2003 when rebel groups, such as the Sudan Liberation Army and the Justice and Equality Movement, took up arms against the Sudanese government. The rebellion was driven by grievances over the unequal distribution of economic resources, leading to widespread loss of life and displacement.
