Corpse Flower

A rare plant known as the corpse flower has bloomed in Sydney, Australia, for the first time in over a decade.

About the Corpse Flower (Amorphophallus titanum):

  • Known for its notorious rotting odor when in bloom.
  • Native to the wilds of Indonesia, where it is called bunga bangkai.
  • The corpse flower has the largest flowering structure of any plant in the world, reaching up to 3 meters in height.
  • It typically blooms only once every few years, with the bloom lasting just about a day.
  • The plant is listed as Endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
