Airport Economic Regulatory Authority

The Public Accounts Committee of Parliament has recently asked the Airport Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) to provide details on the user development fees charged by airport operators across the country.

About AERA:

  • Establishment: AERA is a statutory body established under the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India Act, 2008.
  • Functions:
    • Determines tariffs for aeronautical services, considering factors such as capital expenditure, efficiency costs, economic viability, and government concessions.
    • Sets development fees and passenger service fees under the Aircraft Rules, 1937.
    • Ensures the quality, continuity, and reliability of airport services.
    • Carries out other tasks assigned by the central government or duties related to tariff matters.
