Report on Highways by IIM Bangalore

The development of highways since 2013 has had a significant multiplier effect, with every unit of expenditure on highway construction contributing to a 3.21-unit increase in GDP growth. The multiplier effect refers to the rise in national income resulting from increased government spending, especially on infrastructure projects.

Other Key Findings from the Report:

  • From 2013 to 2022, the development of national highways contributed to a 9% increase in household incomes.
  • The cost of transportation between factories and suppliers decreased by 2.94% and 1.33%, respectively.
  • The national highway (NH) network expanded by 60%, growing from 91,287 km in 2014 to 1,46,145 km by 2024.
