Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS)

The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) in Hyderabad has recently been selected for the Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar-2025.

This annual award, announced on the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose (23rd January), recognizes individuals and organizations for their significant contributions to disaster management in India.

About INCOIS:

• Establishment: Founded in 1999 under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), INCOIS is a unit of the Earth System Science Organisation (ESSO).
• UNESCO Membership: INCOIS is a permanent member of UNESCO's Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC).

Key Functions:

• Provides critical ocean-related information and advisory services.
• Issues warnings for tsunamis, storm surges, high waves, and other hazards through the Indian Tsunami Early Warning Centre (ITEWC).
