Chincholi Wildlife Sanctuary
The Karnataka Forest Department has recently initiated discussions to relocate the Sheribikanahalli hamlet located within the Chincholi Wildlife Sanctuary.
About Chincholi Wildlife Sanctuary:
- Location: Kalburgi District, North Karnataka.
- Established: Declared a sanctuary in 2011.
- Significance: It is the first dry land wildlife sanctuary in South India.
Vegetation: The sanctuary features dry deciduous and moist deciduous forests in the core, with Acacia and Teak plantations on its edges.
Major Flora: Red Sanders and Sandalwood.
Major Fauna: The sanctuary is home to species such as the Black Buck, Four-horned Antelope, Fruit Bat, Hyena, and Indian Wolf.
Key Highlights:
- Chandrampalli Dam: Supplies water to the sanctuary.
- Local Tribes: The Lambani Tandas reside in the area.
