DECIMAL FRACTIONS - EXERCISE 3 (SOLUTION 1 TO 10)

1.      101 27/10000 = 101 + 27/100000=101 + 00027 = 101.00027

2.      0.36 = 36/100 = 9/25. Sum of numerator and denominator = 9 + 25 = 34

3.      Required decimal =1/60 x 60 = 1/3600 = .00027

4.      4 A + 7/B + 2 C + 5/D + 6 E = 47.2506
                      4 A + 7/B 2 C + 5/D + 6 E = 40+7 + 0.2 + 0.05 + 0.0006
Comparing the terms on both sides, we get:
                      4 A = 40, 7/B = 7, 2 C = 0.2, 5/D = 0.05, 6 e = 0.0006

                       (or) A = 10, b=1,C =0.1,D = 100, E=0.0001.
                      5 A + 3 B + 6 C + D + 3 E = (5 X 10) + ( 6 X 0.1) +  100 + (3 X 0.0001)
                     = 50 +3 + 0.6 + 100 + 0.0003 = 153.6003.

5.      converting each of the given fractions Into decimal form, we get:
                      1/3 =0.22, 2/5 = 0.4, 4/7 = 0.57, 3/5 = 0.6 = 5/6= 0.82, 6/7 = 0.857,
                      Clearly, 0.33 <0.4 < 0.57 <0.6 < 0.82<0.857 so, 1/3 <2/5<4/7<3/5<5/6<6/7.

6.      Converting each of the given fractions into decimal form, we get:

        2/3 = 0.66, 3/5 = 0.6, 7/9 = 0.77, 9/11 = 0.81, 8/9 = 0.88.
        Clearly, 0.6 <0.66 <0.77 <0.81.  So, 3/5 <2/3 <7/9 <9/11 < 8/9.

7.      Converting each of the given fractions into decimal form, we get:

                   5/9 = 0.55, 7/11 = 0.63, 8/15 = 0.533, 11/17 = 0.647.
                   Clearly, 0.647 > 0.63> 0.55> 0.533. So, 11/17 > 7/11> 5/9 >8>15.

8.       Converting each of the given fractions into decimal form, we get>

                   2/3 = 0.66,3/4 = 0.75, 4/5 =0.8, 5/6 = 0.833.
                  Since 0.833 > 0.8 > 0.75 > 0.66, so 5/64/5 > 3/4 > 2/3.

                  Required difference = (5/6 – 2/3) = 1/6.

9.      Clearly,11/14 = 0.785, 16/19 = 0.842 , 19/21 = 0.904.

                    Now, 0.785<0.842<0.904<So,11/14<16/19<19/21

10.  We have: 13/16 = 0.8125, 15/19 = 0.7894,17/21 = 0.8095 and 7/8 = 0.875.

Since. 0.7894 is the smallest, so 15/19 is the smallest
